A Measure of The Incoming Harvest
Dear Friends and Prayers:
This week they harvested the grain in the field above the
chapel. You probably remember the pictures I sent last month when I
described the fragrance of the Harvest. Now we can visually
appreciate the magnitude of what is to come. As I looked at this
first wagon, I couldn't help but see the whole of the harvest. This
wagon is not yet fully loaded, and the farmer told me that they would
likely pick up well over a hundred tons.
I got the impression that each individual grain represents a
soul that will be saved in this coming revival. What a massive
harvest! Evan Roberts received a promise from God for one hundred
thousand souls, and the number saved in the 1904 Revival surpassed
that. But we are believing for much more. How many grains of wheat
fit in a bucket? How many buckets does it take to fill an eight ton
wagon? You can do the math!

We had dinner with friends Thursday night, and they mentioned a
word someone received for Wales that said, "...in the last revival
the Lord came for a hundred thousand, but this time He is coming for
a nation." And that is just the beginning! We believe that there is a
global harvest in the making. As we continue to hear more and more
words about this coming move of God since we've been here, we know
with an ever deepening conviction that we are right on target here in
Wales.

A dear friend recently wrote us,
"I get chills every time I read your updates and what God shows you
about His harvest. His harvest IS His heart's concern. I know what you
and Gladys are doing is preparing the soil for the rainfall of His
Spirit
not just on Wales but throughout the world. It is coming. I feel it
in the air."
So we pray the Lord let His plow run deep in the soil of our
lives, turning up and casting aside what may yet be hindering His
work in and through us. And this is our prayer for you as well, and
the rest of the Body of Christ. We will each be called upon to give
our all in the time of the harvest. The barns and the nets must be
ready.
"Lord, make our weaknesses a channel for Your strength! May You rise
upon us and your glory be seen upon us and the nations run to Your
light and be saved!"
Laboring together with you in His love for the harvest,
Dick & Gladys Funnell

Lessons in Faith
Dear Friends and Prayers:
I spent a few hours today in the chapel at Blaennanerch only about three miles from Beulah while our car was in a shop. This is where Evan Roberts said, "Bend me," to the Lord in late 1904, and he was launched from there in faith and obedience to set out for his home chapel in Loughor where the Welsh Revival broke out in full force.
In the course of things in our lives, I was praying about a difficult situation that has confronted us, stemming in part from my lack of faith. I was outside behind the building looking over some fields to the runway of an old military airport, where I had noticed some men flying a radio controlled model biplane. I watched for a little while, and then thought I should really be inside doing some serious prayer. I guess that was just my "religious part" telling me that this was only entertainment and to get down to business. But it was right there that the Lord began to speak to me.
There I was watching the little plane do loops and rolls and other wonderful aerial maneuvers. And suddenly the Lord showed me something about this small scale excitement. These two men with their little remote control radio were doing little stunts, but they were only in control as long as their limited supply of fuel lasted, or there were no technical failures. And through this He showed me that this was what my own faith was like. I saw that there are areas where I have yet to let go of the controls and step out in absolute trust, and let Him be our only and absolute source of strength and supply. Then we'll get to see the big serious warplanes come roaring through like those that were once based here! His strength and His power are all we need.
I repented deeply, and like Evan Roberts, I had to weep and cry out "Lord bend me, and forgive me for my unbelief." This is an ongoing process. It is not enough to climb out of the boat only once! Jesus said in Luke 9:23 "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." And so we are determined to follow Him through thick and thin, and press into His plans for us, for Wales, and the world He so loves.
A very sincere thank you for your prayers! We bless you in Jesus' name.
In His hands,
Dick & Gladys Funnell

Summer in Wales & the "Beulah Annointing"
Dear Friends and Prayers:
We hope all is well with each and every one of you. During this
time of vacation, family activities and travel are the norm for many
of you, and we pray God's blessings on you and your loved ones. We
are missing our own kids a bit, but had a wonderful visit with them
in the Spring and so are thankful for that.
It's also a time of weddings. Speaking or which, I have not
shared some good news that has been going on here. Perhaps you
remember there were four intercessors , all single young ladies, that
that stayed and prayed in our house during our absence? Well,
something quite interesting has been happening. The scripture says in
Isaiah 62:4 "Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy
land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah,
and thy land Beulah: for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land
shall be married."
Well, one of the girls is very happily enjoying a "marriage
made in heaven", and currently living in Wales with her husband. And
our old friend Dagnia is now engaged to be married in December. Her
departure from Beulah was delayed, in seeming inconvenience, because
the Lord had a wonderful plan in store for her! And so now there is
talk of the "Beulah Annointing". And we've even had a couple of
visits from friends that have come by with their single daughters, to
pray with them and see if the "annointing" is transferrable with just
a short time here. :o)
Here is Dagnia with her fiance William, both 38 years old, and who
are delighted with the Lord's favor. He had been praying for his wife
for 14 years, and the Lord showed him Dagnia was the one even before
they'd met! Ah, the fruits of summer!
It is really summer here now, with days of beautiful blue skies
and sunny weather. The daytime temperatures are in the 70's, and we
hear some of the locals complain a bit about the heat. That gives us
a bit of a laugh, after weathering 16 New Orleans sweltering summers.
These morning temperatures of 60 would have some New Orleans folks
wearing their winter coats! :o)
Summer is also a time of prolific growth. Our garden is pumping
out lettuce, spinach and swiss chard, among other things. The flower
beds around our house which were severely overgrown with weeds are
now flourishing with Sweet Williams and many other flowers and
blossoming shrubs under the loving touch of Gladys' green thumb. Even
all the country lanes are constantly changing garb from one set of
wild flowers to another.

As we look at the natural realm and see so much growth, so we
are sowing our prayer times by faith into this season. We know the
Lord's heart is for growth within the body, bringing on a time of
fruitfulness and harvest. But mainly we continue to pray for the
growth of spiritual hunger in Wales and the world around us. We want
to see unbridled and prolific growth of dissatisfaction with material
things, and a longing and hungering for things that have deeper
significance and lasting value. Please pray with us that these times
we are living in with "instant everything" would seem shallower and
shallower, and people would begin to discover a deeper yearning for
something yet out of reach; that they might discover the fulfillment
of Jesus!
Isaiah 64:1 "Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou
wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy
presence, 2 As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the
waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the
nations may tremble at thy presence!"
In His Mighty Love,
Dick & Gladys Funnell

Dear Friends and Prayers:
This is just a quick note to let you know we just survived a week of
intensive Welsh studies, and we made it out alive! We were in a class
of about 15 people, most of whom have had a similar amount of
classwork as we have, though from differing programs of study. It was
a real workout, but we're sure it did us good to review and practice.
Each day we covered different things, and then practiced in 2's or
3's for most of the day. It was exhausting, and but we trust the Lord
is helping us along.
Gladys is very quick to try what she knows with folks, and they seem
quite happy to steer along a bit. Her winning smile and glad
character make her a natural for just taking the plunge with total
strangers. I am a bit more reserved it would seem, and so need a
little more confidence about what I'm saying. It's easy to start a
conversation, but usually after 10 seconds or less I get stuck not
understanding their reply. As they say, "It's hard to teach an old
dog new tricks!"
We appreciate your prayers for us in this specific area, as it is
proving to be quite a challenge. I am really amazed in retrospect
that I learned Spanish so fluently. I've had many people say I have a
gift for languages, but if I did, I seem to have lost it somewhere
along the line! :o)
We know how important it is to be able to carry on a conversation,
even just about day to day things. For us to begin to fit into the
Welsh society and culture, there is no other way. Of course they can
all speak English, and one on one, they are very warm and friendly.
However amongst themselves they flow in Welsh, so to include non-
Welsh speakers in things just doesn't happen because it makes things
awkward. So we press on and are determined to "get there". The real
goal of course is to be able to talk about the things of the Lord
with people in their own language, and so we really need your prayers!
Thank you very sincerely, and may the Lord bless you greatly!
