Hello:
This is just a quick note to say that tomorrow is the annual Singing Festival at Cilfowyr Chapel, and there may be as many as three hundred or more present. The members from eight or nine local chapels get together once a year at "our" chapel to sing hymns of praise and worship, and it is a great time for everyone. They have three sessions: tomorrow morning is for children from the Sunday Schools, and in the afternoon and evening is for adults. The evening meeting is usually the most crowded, and has been recorded and televised in previous years.
Please pray with us that the Holy Spirit move in a special way through the words and music. Many come to join in the event because they love to sing and they love the social aspect of it all. Of course there are many that come to worship as well. But as we were praying in the chapel the last couple of days, what has been on our hearts is that the Lord would break through the force of tradition and make the words come alive in many people's hearts. And that throughout the experience something awaken in them that drives to seek the Lord in their daily lives.
Thank you for your earnest prayers along these lines!
God bless you mightily with His grace,
Dick & Gladys Funnell

April 28th - Market Day in Newcastle Emlyn Dear Friends: Now at prayer in and around the chapel again, there is such a
contrast since Monday in the airport! The silence and peace that
surrounds us here is breathtaking by comparison. And yet again we
realize the enormous privilege we have in being called to this
beautiful place to pray and to love people with God's love! Words can
not express our gratitude, first to our dear Lord who has brought us
to this place. And then to each of you that think of us and pray for
us and help with your financial support. May the Lord bless you each
with His amazing grace. Gladys (in orange scarf) shopping at the Friday open market in
Newcastle Emlyn. A cormorant just popped up out of the water of the Avon (River)
Teifi where I sit just below the parking lot by the 900 year old
castle of Newcastle! On the other side is a large raven, pecking away
at a piece of driftwood, trying to extract something for his morning
tea. A pair of ducks fly by and the white flowering trees sway in the
breeze along the banks. This large double horseshoe bend gave the
castle, raised high on earthworks, an excellent defense for this
Norman stronghold against the unhappy Welsh warlords and their
countrymen. It's incredible to think that right here where I am waiting for
Gladys and Dagnia to finish their shopping was the very scene of
terrible battles as depicted in Brave Heart and such movies. Although
humanitarian achievements have left such bloody and ruthless warfare
well in the past (we pray), the present stakes in the battle for the
souls of a Kingdom is no less intense. The weapons of our warfare are
fortunately not carnal - I'd be an easy target for the formidable
bowmen of the Normans, or the axe-flinging heroes of Welsh fiefdom.
Howevereknow whose side we are on, so can pray in perfect peace and
with every confidence. Psalm 18:
1 I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.
2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God,
my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my
salvation, and my high tower.
3 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall
I be saved from mine enemies.
13 The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his
voice; hail stones and coals of fire.
14 Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out
lightnings, and discomfited them.
15 Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of
the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the
breath of thy nostrils.
16 He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters. May God's love and blessings overtake you each day, Dick & Gladys Funnell For information on our mission to Wales, please visit

Dear Friends:
We are so thankful for your prayers, and thank the Lord for hearing them and getting us on the Miami - London flight last night! We were the first two of the last four to get on. And we were even given the spacious reclining seats in business class which makes a real rest possible before the five hour drive home.
We're due to land in about thirty minutes, and after collecting our bags which have been here since Saturday morning, including a beautiful guitar that one of our sons gave to Gladys. Then we will be met by an intercessor friend who has been kind enough to keep our car at his home nearby while we've been away. It is amazing how the Lord in His awesome grace had provided even for these details before we left!
Now we look forward to discovering what has been happening in Wales during our absence. We have missed our friends and it will be wonderful to see everyone again, and we're curious to hear of the happening in our Beulah house of prayer, and meet people who have been there that we know yet. Even our friend that meets us this morning has been out there to pray.
After spending those days waiting and praying in the busy Miami airport, our peaceful chapel will be a very welcome change! We have been awesomely blessed by the Lord during our visit back to the U.S., but we know that Wales is really our home now and we glad and relieved to be arriving home today!
Again, many thanks for your prayers, your interest and your support.
Overwhelmed by His amazing love,
Dick & Gladys Funnell

Dear Friends & Prayers:
This morning finds us starting day number three in Miami's busy international airport. I don't know if that's because you haven't prayed enough for us, or prayed too much! :o) But trusting that our steps are ordered by the Lord, we know there is a nothing happening that is out of His control, and this helps us remember better than ever that we really have no control of things anyway, in spite of what we may have convinced ourselves.
We are now waiting for our second stand-by flight to Chicago, the previously one being too full. We have 6 more flights to try today, and if we get there early early enough, we may be able to make a later flight to London, where our bags and Gladys' guitar await us. If we only make it to Chicago today, then we can look forward to an unexpected visit with our dear old friends Tom & Cynthia Peterson, whom we've known for over 30 years from old Gospel Outreach days.
While standing and waiting to have our itinerary "rolled over" to the next flight, I suddenly saw what's happening with us and the other stand-by passengers in a different light. This process of waiting and hoping to get on each successive flight is a patience-building exercise. If you don't get on one flight, you just wait and hope to get on the next. If you don't make that one, then you try again on the next, and so on. As you move from gate to gate, hoping and wondering, you can ask about the odds of actually making a flight, or just wait and hope in silence. Which is better? It doesn't change matters anyway, because things will fall into place as they may.
(. . . continued 6 missed flights later . . :o) So what I "saw" earlier was how people who don't know Jesus go through their lives hoping to find happiness, success, "true love" or fulfillment. Most everyone grows up with hopes and dreams, and sets out to fulfill them. If their first goals can't be reached, or become to difficult to attain, they readjust their aim and try for that one. And if that too proves to be out of reach, then they shoot for something else. Many others actually reach their goals, but they find out sooner or later, and some much later, that they are not satisfied, and so look for a new "flight to catch" . . . a new career, a new home, a new spouse, or worse.
Other people may not seek changes so much in their outward circumstances, but rather engage in a process of spiritual searching to find the meaning to life, or "find themselves" or some state of "enlightenment." They are a myriad of pathways to follow, New Age philosophies and trends are proliferating. The traditional world religions are attaining new popularity. Islam is growing at a frightening pace. And at the risk of being politically incorrect, we know very well that all of these lead nowhere at best, or a suicide mission at worst. The deception stops with another "gate change", or the grave...
So as we wait, we are learning that even airports are a great place to pray. The needs of the world pass before our eyes by the hundreds and thousands, and we know this time is not wasted. Of course we do prefer the silence and peace of "our" chapel in Wales, and we would like to get home soon. But we know we can enjoy this unusual time of watching and praying.
Today is Sunday, all the flights are even more difficult than yesterday, so we are taking a day off and resting in a friend's apartment in Miami. What a blessing to have so many friends in the Body of Christ, our family-at large! The Lord is so good, and we are grateful to be able to enjoy this time. But please do pray that we learn what we're supposed to quickly so we can get home soon! Thank you.
Love and blessings to all,
Dick & Gladys Funnell

Dear Friends and Prayers:
After another long and very busy silence, we left yesterday for Wales. We did make it as far as Miami, but we are flying standby and the flight last night was overbooked, so we got bumped off.
Please pray that tonight's flight from Miami to London Heathrow have room for the two of us. We were told by one person at the counter that we might not get on a flight until Monday. But another one said that we will be at the top of the list now, and so chances are not so slim. We know the Lord is the one who ultimately has control over every situation, and perhaps we just needed a day of rest after all our runnings around in Louisiana and Texas.
We did have several wonderful times with our kids, including a huge crawfish boil last Sunday with our youngest son's girlfriend's large extended family in Lafayette, which was a real treat! Monday we spend several hours in the Tangipahoa River just north of Hammond where Mike lives, and Tuesday spend time in my old office, and then did lunch and visited the New Orleans' French Quarter with Mike, his girlfriend and our daughter Grace. It was almost as hard saying goodbye to them again as it was last year, but we know how great the Lord's care for each of them has been, so we are at peace.
We are glad to be going back home again, and find out what has been happening in Beulah and elsewhere. Prayer meetings have continued in our home, and so we look forward to being in those meetings ourselves! It will be wonderful getting back and not having to hop from place to place like we've been doing for the past six weeks. It has been a blessing visiting, meeting new friends and encouraging many with our testimonies, and praying and being prayed for. But we will embrace the stability of home, and as we start planting in our vegetable garden, as we continue planting into the spiritual realm. We anticipate the great Harvest that is coming, and the joy of countless souls embracing the love of our Redeemer!
Thanks for your prayers that we do get aboard American flight 56 tonight from Miami to London!
Love and blessings to each of you,
Dick & Gladys Funnell

Family and friends new and old . . .
Dear Friends and Prayers:
I apologize for the long silence! The past couple weeks have been filled to brimming. Our first week in New Orleans was really a blessing as we got to spent time with our children, and hear a bit about their lives and their adventures throughout the Katrina experience. We also had a chance to visit with some friends from our home church, and catch up on news. That Sunday I shared some of our testimonies along with a few pictures, and enjoyed the Spanish worship again. I'm not so sure anymore whether that will be the language in heaven though. I think Welsh would be a more impressive miracle!
The following weekend we attended the Race Track Chaplaincy of America annual conference in Houston, who help support our mission in Wales. It was a great to see a few of the folks we worked so closely with at the New Orleans Fairgrounds for more than 10 years, and other friends and chaplains we've meet over the years. We had a few divine appointments that were very encouraging!
Then Wednesday we flew to Midland, Texas where we had an exceptional time. Our friends Kay and Judy did an exceptional job of planning our schedule, and arranged four meetings in the two days we were there! We really received a very special measure of blessing and encouragement as they prayed for and shared words with us.
From there we returned to Louisiana Saturday for the beautiful wedding of our daughter's best friend, and have been spending time again with our kids. We can't seem to get enough of that! We have also have been taking care of some business matters in New Orleans, and helping out in the office with some details that needed my intervention. Roger, who replaced me there, has done an excellent job, but after nearly a year had a list of questions.
Meanwhile in Beulah the prayer meetings continue in our home, and we are blessed to hear the good news of that. We are really beginning to miss Wales, however, and are starting to count the days until we go home in two weeks! This weekend we have planned to go to the beach in Pensacola with our kids, and then next week head to the Dallas area to visit friends and a church that have been helping us. Please pray with us that the Lord open some new channels of ongoing support while we are there.
Thank you so much for your continued prayers and interest. May His blessing abound in your lives and relationships as you shine for Him!
In His great love,
Dick & Gladys Funnell
